A Wonderful Day – Part 1

I just love days like yesterday…and sadly they are far too rare.  It was such great bonding/one-on-one time that I’ve resolved that I must do this regularly, with the kids alone.  Particularly with Jaedah since she’s in school full time, and when she’s home, so is Liam…so,  in the next month or two, I’m going to drop off Liam at a friend’s house and take Jade out for the day.

I dropped off Jaedah at my sister’s in the morning (because she went along with them to Port Townsend, WA for 3 days), and then Liam and I carried on to Lynden, WA.  (For those of you who don’t know, Lynden’s a gorgeous, immaculate little town, where they really play up the dutch heritage.)  I was just planning on dropping off my spring/summer clothes at the Little Red Wagon consignment store (I know they have them here in Chilliwack too, but I’ve gone there ever since my sister used to live in Lynden), but since it was such a sunny day, we decided to walk down the main street and browse through the stores.

Liam, surprisingly, enjoys going through the antique stores just as much as I do!  I love imagining what life was like for the people who owned that old stuff – who ate off that cutlery? – who’s preserves filled those beautiful blue mason jars?  Somehow, I doubt that life was as much of a rat-race then, as it is now.

Sadly, that great little dutch mall with the canal running through it, is completely deserted – all the stores empty - except for the hotel lobby and a kids store.  I used to love going to that mall for lunch with Dad and Mom, watching the fish (which, much to Liam’s delight, are still there), and looking in the quaint shops.   It did, however, mean that I got tons of great shots of Liam in there which I’ll share tomorrow.

See that book displayed in the store window below?  I want it.  I adore the Pioneer Woman’s blog - check it out, I’m sure you will too.  She writes so candidly about life on the ranch, kids, cooking, photography, gardening, even homeschooling.  She’s a real inspiration; it’s crazy what she accomplishes in a day - I’m sure, that down in Texas, each day is 53 hours long.

That picture of Liam and the ape is a little scary, isn’t it?  Positively evolutionary.  Same great smile! :)

Liam was so awesome – totally hamming it up for the camera!  The whole afternoon was one long, wonderful photo session.  Hello gorgeous, reflected light (a photographer’s dream):

More of my little dude comin’ up tomorrow….

Have a great day! :)
