Friday evening was the First Official Marvelous Summer Evening Spent in Harrison. A lofty and pretentious title, I know, but an event that truly (in my opinion) necessitates such a name. You’ll see, if all goes well, evidence of many such evenings enjoyed here throughout the coming summer months.
We adore jumping in the car for the 20 minute car ride to gorgeous Harrison Lake, where we often enjoy dinner followed by Baskin Robins for Eric and myself, and the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory for the kids, where their choice never wavers from chocolate covered marshmallows with sprinkles for Liam, and caramel covered marshmallows with sprinkles for Jaedah. Although I’m not usually a caramel fan, I must admit that it’s Jaedah’s marshmallows-on-a-stick in particular that I try and sneak bites from while they’re on the swings…but that kid’s got eagle eyes and I usually don’t end up with much more than a nibble. :) …But it’s alright, because I savor the stunning view of the lake, and the sunflare across my camera’s lens, as I capture my kids enjoying the swings and slides and my husband relaxing after a hard day of work, more than any caramel or chocolate coated anything!
I often think how blessed we are to live so close to such beauty! While the town itself leaves a little to be desired, I don’t mind its lack of class too much…it’s rather forgiving of sand stained t-shirts and sticky faces – it’s blissfully comfortable and unassuming. I love how it feels like a mini vacation to go there for a few hours to relax and rejuvenate. I love how there’s years of happy memories – a whole lifetime – crowded around that lagoon and beyond. I also especially love the people I frequent it with.
Friday evening lived up to it’s title.
