Sticky, Sweet Sunshine

Friday evening was the First Official Marvelous Summer Evening Spent in Harrison.  A lofty and pretentious title, I know, but an event that truly (in my opinion) necessitates such a name.  You’ll see, if all goes well, evidence of many such evenings enjoyed here throughout the coming summer months.

We adore jumping in the car for the 20 minute car ride to gorgeous Harrison Lake, where we often enjoy dinner followed by Baskin Robins for Eric and myself, and the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory for the kids, where their choice never wavers from chocolate covered marshmallows with sprinkles for Liam, and caramel covered marshmallows with sprinkles for Jaedah.  Although I’m not usually a caramel fan, I must admit that it’s Jaedah’s marshmallows-on-a-stick in particular that I try and sneak bites from while they’re on the swings…but that kid’s got eagle eyes and I usually don’t end up with much more than a nibble.  :)  …But it’s alright, because I savor the stunning view of the lake, and the sunflare across my camera’s lens, as I capture my kids enjoying the swings and slides and my husband relaxing after a hard day of work, more than any caramel or chocolate coated anything!

I often think how blessed we are to live so close to such beauty!  While the town itself leaves a little to be desired, I don’t mind its lack of class too much…it’s rather forgiving of sand stained t-shirts and sticky faces – it’s blissfully comfortable and unassuming.  I love how it feels like a  mini vacation to go there for a few hours to relax and rejuvenate.  I love how there’s years of happy memories – a whole lifetime – crowded around that lagoon and beyond.  I also especially love the people I frequent it with.

Friday evening lived up to it’s title.

Haha, you’re a scream! :) Sorry to cause such distress! As for the chocolate…trust me, those things are worth the trip to either Calgary or Medicine Hat to find the nearest Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. Much more satisfactory than lickin’ your screen. Unless you get off on that sort of thing, of course! ;)
Thanks again! Cheers.

I spent my summers as a child hanging out at Harrison, and I can’t even give my children the same joy… NO, because I live MUCH too far away, and then, to TOP it all off, you post chocolate marshmallow thingys that I tried to eat thru the screen with very little sucsess if you must know… You are a VERY bad person!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a lovely way to make memories! The kids will never forget these special moments. They are so lucky that you take pictures to help them remember the precious moments. Before you know it they’ll be doing what my kids are starting to do…take pictures of their own. I have more pictures of myself now then ever before, since the kids want to contribute too! I’m actually surprised by the interesting perspective the different kids have of life, when you let them take pics.

Highly, highly over-rated, and fearfully loathsome. Remember: chocolate is HEALTHY for you. :)
