I just spent my 30th birthday earlier this month, with my husband basking in the sun (only 20 minutes of rain!!) in the Riviera Maya, Mexico! We stayed at the Catalonia Riviera Maya (my Trip Advisor review . Side note: if you’re planning a vacation, be sure to check out Trip Advisor – real people’s reviews; get the real scoop.) in Puerto Adventuras and had a wonderful week of sheer bliss: reading books under a palapa with a Miami Vice firmly in hand; biking around the town complex and marina dreaming wild, never-going-to-happen dreams, of places we’d like to own; snorkeling in the clear and calm water at the resort marveling at the colourful fish and coral; eating chocolate and whipping cream crepes under the stars….taking pictures and more pictures.
That is, until my camera broke down on the third day, (it’s currently in at Nikon getting a new shutter) and I had to resort to throw away cameras. Can you believe it??? Throw aways! They. Suck. Big. Time. There is absolutely no scope for creativity with those things at all – one shutter speed and aperture, neither of which work great and result in very unsatisfactory, blurry and/or grainy pictures. I must admit that I had to try very hard to not let that ruin the trip. Truly, I can totally get off on photographing the same palm tree (insert here any other tropical thing that comes to mind) every day, in differently light, from different angles… and not being able to do so was rather distressing! However, all that aside, we had a marvelous time! Sigh.
3 weeks ago today we were in Playa del Carmen, having lunch at Senior Frogs. (I do this to myself after vacations; for several weeks after I can not help but think mundane thoughts like ”4 weeks ago today I was getting a pedicure, and beginning to pack for our trip.” Ridiculous perhaps, but I’m just trying to keep the memory and excitement alive!)
The wonderful beach/ocean | The view from one of our balconies | Me snorkeling – or trying to – not sure what I was doing wrong but these kept on filling up with water. As gorgeous as the water is to look at… taste, not so much! | Eric in Playa del Carmen (taken with throw away #1):

An evening view from a differnt balcony in our room | Ummm…this is a different palm tree – I promise! This is one of the great views from my beach chair| Self explanitory x2:

So…while I’ve been sitting here in my little Mayan Reverie, my laundry hasn’t done itself, nor are the much needed groceries purchased and in the frige….so I’m off to try and salvage this Monday and still make it somewhat productive!
Have a great week!
